Huntington Girls’ Volleyball Improves to 4-1

September 14, 2022

The Huntington varsity girls’ volleyball team improved its record to 4-1 by topping Copiague, 25,10, 25-23 and 25-10 earlier this week. The Blue Devils are now set to enter a more challenging stretch of the schedule.

The 3-0 record marks the best start by a Blue Devil girls’ volleyball team in more than 20 years according to head coach Todd Donaghy. What makes the record even more impressive is that Huntington has been forced to practice and play its home matches at J. Taylor Finley Middle School gym while the high school gym has a new floor installed.

Blue Devil players stepped up at Copiague, coming together to play exciting and winning volleyball. Huntington coasted in the first and third games, but the Eagles went toe-to-toe in the second game, which went right down to the wire.

To recap volleyball terminology:
 • A dig is awarded when a defensive player successfully passes a ball that has been determined to be an attack by an opponent.
• A kill is awarded whenever an attack is unreturnable by the opposition and is a direct cause of the opponent not returning the ball.
• An ace is a serve that results directly to a point.

Lauren Donaghy led Huntington with 20 assists, two kills, four digs and two aces. Kate Barba tallied six kills, six aces and seven digs. Brianna Borenstein added four kills, two assists, six digs, four aces and a block. Renee McKeon had five kills. Megan Donaghy also played well compiling four kills, four digs and two aces.

Haileigh Smith contributed three digs, two kills and a block. Neurdia Osias had two kills and Lauren Gennarelli added two digs and two aces.
