Blue Devil Field Hockey Improves to 3-0

September 12, 2022

There are no easy games for Suffolk field hockey teams, including the Huntington varsity, which won its third straight tough battle without a loss. The Blue Devils upended visiting Sayville at Blue Devil Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.

Huntington rallied after a scoreless first half. Laurel Bonn put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard and Charlotte Curtin followed with an insurance goal. Grace Agrillo and Tessie Maerz tallied assists. Goalie Carlee Schultz stopped five shots in the cage.

“The game was fun and fast and we all are really playing so well together,” Agrillo said. “Every last one of us is playing so hard and not quitting on ourselves or the team. It’s been a great season so far. We have a long way to go, so I’m sure we will only get even better. But winning sure is fun.”

Huntington’s two previous wins came in overtime games against Connetquot (2-1) and West Islip (3-2). More tough games lie ahead.

The Blue Devils host Centereach on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. before traveling to Commack on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game and Ward Melville on Saturday for a 12 noon contest. Huntington will return home on Tuesday, September 20 for a 4 p.m. game against Bay Shore.

The Blue Devils are captained by Agrillo, Bonn, Maerz, Gemma Cartwright and Erin Scanlon. In addition to the captains and Curtin and Schultz, the roster is loaded with skilled players, including Laura Curtin, Quinn Fox, Markella Markotsis, Kaci McDonald, Katie Meagher, Rachel Morina, Ella O’Heir, Jordana Paniccia, Brooke Parks, Abigail Pawlak, Olivia Polinsky, Elizabeth Stair, Stephanie Wickey and Sophia Weiss.

Huntington is coached by Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon.
