Finley Winter Season I Sports Start on November 7

J. Taylor Finley Middle School’s Winter Season No. 1 is quickly approaching as athletes and coaches begin preparations for the start of tryouts on Monday, November 7.

The early winter season, as it is commonly known, will feature opportunities for boys to play basketball and girls to play volleyball. There will be two teams in each sport with seventh and eighth graders mixed on all four rosters.

Three days of tryouts will be held over the course of the first week, which includes school closures on Tuesday, November 8 for Election Day and Friday, November 11.

Tryouts for boys’ basketball will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Finley gym from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Tryouts for girls’ volleyball will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Finley gym from 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Since last year, Huntington UFSD expanded the Finley athletic program to include more opportunities for students. The district added second teams in girls’ soccer, girls’ basketball and girls’ volleyball as well as boys’ basketball. (Finley already had a second boys’ soccer team.)

With the two added teams during Winter Season No. 1, twice as many Finley students will be able to participate. All four early winter season teams will play 10 game schedules.

Students should sign-up in the nurse’s office. Every student needs to get re-qualified by the school nurse prior to each sport season. The nurse can only clear a student-athlete who has the following forms on file:

New York State requires an interval health history form dated within 30 days of the start of each sports season,

All Finley sports student-athletes are also required to submit a blue parent permission form to their coach no later than the first day of tryouts/practice.
