Woodhull’s Podcast Club Returns

Woodhull Intermediate School podcast club is back for a second year. Fifth and sixth graders have been working on producing the first podcast of 2022/23. The year’s first show will debut in two weeks.

Teacher Rosemarie Rivera is the club’s faculty advisor. She has been working with students on the podcast’s content and organization. The club was created to provide a means for students to express their opinions and as a venue for the youngsters to share concerns, happenings and ideas.

The podcast will also encourage student participation in Woodhull events to help generate school spirit. A cross section of students from the fifth and sixth grades is participating in this year’s club.

“One of our new segments this year is going to be ‘health tips,’” Ms. Rivera said. “For the segment, students will research beneficial tips related to physical, mental or nutritional health. They will then share their findings on the podcast for other students to learn about. For our first podcast episode, we will focus on mental health tips related to stress, as November 2 is Stress Awareness Day.”

Podcast staff members will research healthy tips to cope with stress that they feel will be beneficial to classmates. “These may include calm down strategies, activities, hobbies, etc.,” Ms. Rivera said.

Woodhull Principal Scott Oshrin has invited faculty and staff members to share “any and all” new ideas.

Here’s how the dictionary defines the term podcast: “A digital audio file made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.”

Woodhull podcast staff members fall into a variety of categories, including news reporters, interview/game hosts, discuss team members and producers among other job titles.
