Parents and Players Invited to Meet Girls’ Lax Coaches

October 19, 2022

Parents and players on every level of the Blue Devil girls’ lacrosse program are invited to meet new varsity head coach Katie Reilly and the rest of the varsity, JV and Finley Middle School coaching staff members and discuss plans for the year at an open meeting on Wednesday, October 26 from 7-8 p.m. in the Huntington High School cafeteria. Dinner will be served.

Varsity assistant coach Chris Taylor, junior varsity coaches Chiara Maimone and Lauren Blackburn and middle school coaches Hildi Stanford and Greg Dieterich will also be on hand for a question and answer session. The meeting is expected to run about one hour.

All Huntington UFSD girls’ lacrosse players and parents are welcome to attend, including seventh graders who will be playing at Finley for the first time.

The Huntington varsity will enter the season seeded No. 8 in the 19 team Suffolk Division I. Reilly believes it is entirely possible that the Blue Devils have enough talent to surprise more than one opponent.

The Blue Devils are hoping that many former players in the program who dropped the sport for one reason or another will return and rediscover their love of lacrosse. “Everyone is welcome; everyone,” Reilly said. “I am excited to work with players on every level.”

A member of Huntington’s Class of 2016, Reilly earned an undergraduate degree at Princeton University in politics. She was recruited to play on the Ivy League school’s NCAA Division I lacrosse team and was Princeton’s captain as a senior.

Reilly went on to obtain a Master of Social Work degree at Stony Brook University and is currently employed by Huntington UFSD as a leave replacement social worker at Woodhull Intermediate School, Jack Abrams STM Magnet School and the high school.

Reilly starred at midfield for the Blue Devils, earning a long list of honors. Few could match her playmaking skills. At the time of her high school graduation she was among Long Island’s all-time career leaders in assists and points.
