Blue Devil Band is Sharp at Sunday’s Home Show

October 18, 2022

The Huntington Blue Devil marching band was sharp at its home show on Sunday afternoon at Blue Devil Stadium. The musicians and color guard members staged a memorable performance for family friends and competitors from across the metropolitan area.

Bands from Deer Park, Nyack, Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Floral Park, Sachem, Walt Whitman, Hicksville and Brentwood participated in the New York State Field Band Conference event.

Blue Devil drum majors Nadeera Ali, Emma Hannigan and Isabella Lima and field major Rachel Morina led Huntington to new heights. Co-directors Andre Rizzuto and Patrick Neary and fellow band staff members were thrilled with the band’s performance in front of the huge crowd.

The Band Parents Association of Huntington organized the show and carried out its plans to perfection. There were extensive food, beverage and apparel offerings. Visiting bands and fans were delighted with their hosts and the facilities offered to participants.

District officials were on hand to present awards to the top bands. Following early morning clouds, the weather cooperated and produced a lovely fall day.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it had been several years since the Blue Devils hosted a home show, which is an important fundraising event for the band. The monies raised on Sunday will be used to enhance the band’s activities.

“The home went really well; perhaps even better,” Ms. Ali said. “We had an amazing weekend performing at Sachem on Saturday night and the band really gave it their all on Sunday on our home turf. Our show has really come along and the band is really shaping it to be their own show. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
