Blue Devil Boys’ Soccer Plays Tonight Under Lights

Tuesday night under the lights. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? The Huntington varsity boys’ soccer team will host powerful North Babylon tonight at Manor Park at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will bring an overall mark of 7-4-1 into the game. The Bulldogs are 9-3-1.

Coached by John Pagano and Jason Suarez, Huntington has claimed victories over Rocky Point (2-0), Riverhead (3-0), William Floyd (4-0), Bay Shore (3-2), Copiague (4-1), Northport (2-1) and Half Hollow Hills East (2-1). The Blue Devils dropped verdicts to Patchogue-Medford (3-2), Walt Whitman (2-1), Commack (3-0) and West Islip (2-1). Huntington and Lindenhurst battled to a scoreless tie.

Huntington is coming off a 2-1 loss at defending state champion West Islip. The Blue Devils went into halftime tied with the Lions, 1-1 before falling victim to a second half goal.

Huntington and North Babylon both play in arguably the toughest league in the state; Suffolk League I. The Bulldogs are currently in fifth place among 13 teams. The Blue Devils are right behind in sixth place.

Huntington’s offense is led by sophomore Carlos Guiterrez, who has tallied six goals and an assist. Junior Bryan Lizama has notched five goals and four assists and senior Kevin Velez has five goals and two assists. Senior goalie Dylan Hayden has stopped 52 shots.

North Babylon is led by Steven Vargas, who has nine goals and two assists. Bulldog goalie Justin Greisofe’s 98 saves lead Suffolk.
