Alum Katie Reilly Named Girls’ Lax Head Coach

October 6, 2022

Katie Reilly has been named the Huntington High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team’s head coach. The Blue Devil alum was approved to serve in the post by the Huntington School Board at Monday night’s public meeting.

Trustees also named Shea Scully, who served as last year’s varsity girls’ lacrosse head coach as the head coach of Huntington’s new varsity girls’ flag football team, which will also play during the spring season.

Reilly is a 2016 graduate of Huntington. She earned an undergraduate degree at Princeton University in politics. She was recruited to play on the Ivy League school’s NCAA Division I lacrosse team and was Princeton’s captain as a senior. She went on to obtain a Master of Social Work degree at Stony Brook University and is currently employed by Huntington UFSD as a leave replacement social worker at Woodhull Intermediate School, Jack Abrams STM Magnet School and the high school.

Lacrosse has been a major pillar in my life, teaching me life lessons and opening up doors I never thought possible, so it is a privilege to be able to return the favor.

Reilly starred at midfield for the Blue Devils, earning a long list of honors. Few could match her playmaking skills. At the time of her high school graduation she was among Long Island’s all-time career leaders in assists and points.

Huntington High School physical education teacher Christopher Taylor will be returning to his position as the varsity assistant coach. He has worked on every level of the Blue Devil lacrosse program.

“I am thrilled and honored to be named the Huntington varsity women’s lacrosse coach,” Reilly said. “Lacrosse has been a major pillar in my life, teaching me life lessons and opening up doors I never thought possible, so it is a privilege to be able to return the favor. Coaching alongside Shea Scully and Chris Taylor was amazing last year and I am personally very excited to start where we left off with the talent that we have this year.”

Reilly knew the appointment was coming and she has been working on her plans for the team and season for several weeks.

“We play in a competitive league, but we have seasoned veterans in Laurel Bonn, Gianna Forte and Grace Agrillo, who will be leading the charge and I have full confidence in them that they will get us to where we need to go,” Reilly said.

Reilly is participating in a series of fall clinics for K-8 students coordinated by Huntington Village Lacrosse on October 9, October 30 and November 16.

“We had an amazing turnout for our first clinic on Sept 25,” Reilly said. “Kayleigh Bender and Gianna Forte assisted me in running it and we hope to see those same numbers return for the final three clinics with other varsity team members helping give back to the community.”
