Blue Devil Unified Bowling Schedule Announced

November 29, 2022

Section XI has issued Huntington High School’s new varsity Unified bowling team a six meet schedule. Five of the six meets will be rolled at Larkfield Lanes in East Northport. The new program is sanctioned by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The athletes completing the season will receive Blue Devil varsity athletic awards.

Lauren Blackburn is Huntington's Unified bowling coach.

Unified bowling is a varsity level sport that features Special Olympians paired with general education students, who serve as teammates and assistants on the co-ed roster.

This will mark the first year that Section XI officially sanctions the Unified bowling program and schedules meets for participating high schools. Huntington piloted a Unified bowling team last winter.

The Huntington team will be coached by high school physical education teacher Lauren Blackburn. She obtained an undergraduate degree in 2011 in therapeutic recreation and a master’s degree in physical education/adapted physical education at Adelphi University in 2019.

Ms. Blackburn interned at the United States Adaptive Recreation Center in Big Bear, California in 2011. She taught health at Huntington High School and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School in 2021/22 and is now a full-time physical education at the high school.

A handful of intramural sessions are planned for this winter for potential teams members at Larkfield Lanes in the run-up to the official start of the season. Announcements will be made and flyers will be posted on the district website.

Practice will commence on February 27 at Larkfield Lanes. Huntington will play meets against Deer Park (March 7), Harborfields (March 9), John H. Glenn (March 14), Northport (March 16), North Babylon (March 21) and Half Hollow Hills (March 23). The first five matches will be played at Larkfield Lanes. The final meet will be played at Bowlero in Melville.
