Blue Devil Varsity Club Meets

November 29, 2022

The Huntington High School Varsity Club met last week in the athletic office, discussing numerous items on a lengthy agenda, including a full financial report.

The meeting included Varsity Club President Gianna Forte, Vice President Kaci McDonald, Treasurer Haileigh Smith, Secretary Thomas Girimonti, Director of Athletics Jim Hoops, Coordinator of Athletics Michael Marinello and office assistant Nicole Haas.

Mrs. Haas explained the procedures in place to protect the student raised monies in the account and provided the individual team balances. The discussion included the district policies related to raising monies and how those funds should be handled.

The executive board members also listened to a review of the fall season and an update on the first ten days of the winter season.

An extensive discussion took place regarding last June’s senior athletic awards ceremony in the high school auditorium what can be added, deleted or otherwise changed to improve the event. The executive board shared numerous items with Mr. Marinello, who is taking the lead in organizing next June’s ceremony. Overall, the students said they very much liked last spring’s event, which members of the group attended as underclassmen, helping to keep the award distribution organized.

An even lengthier discussion ensued over the department’s winter season community service project (collection of winter clothing and non-perishable food items), the continuing high school fitness room project, plans to reconfigure the high school rig room, the creation of four outdoor basketball courts and an outdoor volleyball court, additional planned facility upgrades that are either already begun or that will start in the near future, the new turf field that is expected to be installed next summer at the high school, the new Blue Devil Stadium press box that’s coming, the new high school gymnasium sound system that is in the process of installation, the booster club’s new executive team and possible changes to next fall’s high school pep rally.

The student leaders expressed their support for the expansion of the middle school and high school athletic programs that is well underway and their desire for a winter season pep rally in the gym.
