December 22, 2022

Rylee Davis has lived all over the world and studied in multiple schools, but she’s having the time of her life right here; right now. The Huntington High School junior is thriving.

“Since my dad is in the Air Force, I have attended a lot of schools in my lifetime,” Ms. Davis said. “Throughout my life, I have lived in a total of eight places. I moved from Okinawa, Japan to Long Island the summer before my sophomore year. I can honestly say that Huntington High School is a one-of-a-kind school! I have had a wonderful experience in my short time here. I have significantly grown as a student and continue to further my education each day.”

The teenager has visited a variety of cities and states. “I have traveled to several places during my life,” Ms. Davis said. “I lived in Utah, upstate New York, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Missouri and Japan. I especially enjoyed my time in Okinawa, Japan. Living abroad was a special experience for me. I loved learning about the culture, trying new foods and exploring the beautiful island. During my three years in Japan, I was also able to visit Tokyo, Bali and Singapore. I similarly enjoyed all of these places.”

It’s fair to say that Ms. Davis has friends all over the country and even the world. “Last summer, I was able to fly to Utah and visit one of my friends from Japan,” she said. “I was also able to spend quality time with my family. It was a great opportunity to relax and prepare for my junior year of high school.”

Ms. Davis has embraced life at Huntington High School and everything that it offers. Faculty members prize her as a student and classmates admire her.

“I have been blessed with so many exceptional teachers throughout my time at Huntington High School,” Ms. Davis said. “Both this year and last year, I was able to have Mrs. [Lauren] Desiderio as a teacher. She taught my Advanced Placement World History class during my sophomore year and currently teaches my Psychology class. She has done an amazing job teaching me the content of both courses and has made me feel so welcome in Huntington. Mr. [Joseph] Malizia, who taught my Honors Chemistry class last year, has likewise been an incredible teacher. He helped foster my love of science and made me feel more confident in my ability to succeed. Mrs. [Patricia] Avelli has been another wonderful teacher. I have always enjoyed math and she has made Pre-Calculus interesting and fun.”

The teenager intends to pursue pre-medicine studies in college. “Eventually, I want to attend medical school and become a doctor,” Ms. Davis said. The junior’s academic average is in the stratosphere. In the first marking period it exceeded 105 thanks to the many challenging courses she’s excelling in this year.

“I have always cared immensely about my education,” Ms. Davis said. “I set high goals for myself and I am driven in my desire to succeed. Eventually, I hope that my efforts can be utilized to improve the lives of those around me. I truly want to contribute to society in a positive way.”

The junior participates in numerous extracurricular activities, including The Dispatch student newspaper, Key Club and Habitat for Humanity. “I was also recently inducted into the National Honor Society and will be inducted into the Math Honor Society in a few weeks,” Ms. Davis said. “I have had many service opportunities through these clubs. For example, I was able to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build which allowed me to give back to the community. During February break, I look forward to going on a build in New Orleans.”

Ms. Davis’ academic schedule includes classes in AP United States History, AP Chemistry, AP Seminar, Spanish IV Honors, Pre-Calculus Honors, Psychology and Health. “My favorite subjects are probably Pre-Calculus, AP United States History and Psychology,” she said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed the content of these classes. I am always excited to attend them because I am constantly learning more fascinating information.”

A person gets the sense that Ms. Davis is destined for success. “Though I do not have every detail of my life planned out, I hope to achieve some level of success in my career within the next ten years,” she said. “I would like to attend both college and medical school. I know I would like to be a doctor. I have not decided which kind of doctor, but I do hope to pursue a career in medicine.”
