Ozobots Are a Hit at Washington Primary School

December 19, 2022

Computer coding instruction and activities continue at Washington Primary School’s library school media center, much to the delight of students. The youngsters are making good use of Ozobot Evo classroom kits.

So-called “Ozobots” are coding robots that utilize sensors and Bluetooth capabilities to perform a variety of exciting actions, including tornado twisting movements, “super-speed” and numerous others.

Huntington UFSD purchase the Ozobot Evo classroom kits for the four primary schools and they are proving to be hit.

Washington third grade students are the first to test out the new kits in that school building. Students were able to identify and label hardware components on the bots using guided activities. The youngsters can now explain how the robots use sensors to travel hand drawn lines and perform actions depending on the color codes programmed.

The color codes perform actions depending on the sequence of colors drawn on paper. As a result, students gain foundational knowledge of programming, coding sequences/algorithms and robotics. Perhaps the best part is the amount fun students have while learning. Just ask the kids themselves.

Ozobot activities can be integrated with curriculum associated with math, science, art, social studies, ELA - even 3D printing. “Students and teachers are excited to explore more and discover what else these little bots can do,” Washington Principal Michelle Richards said.
