Free Boys’ Basketball Clinic for Grades 4-8

December 16, 2022

The Huntington High School varsity boys’ basketball program will host a free clinic for Huntington UFSD boys in grades 4-8 on Thursday, December 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the high school gym. Mark your calendar now.

Varsity head coach Peter Lipka and assistants Kevin Thorbourne and Jake Torres will work with clinic participants. While there is no cost for the clinic, participants are asked to bring one or two non-perishable food items and drop them off in the gym lobby. The goods will be donated to Helping Hand Rescue Mission.

Coach Lipka is in his first year with the Blue Devils. He played four years at Farmingdale State College and led the nation in three-point shooting percentage as a sophomore. He went on to coach for a decade at the US Merchant Marine Academy and CW Post. He works in Queens as a physical education teacher.

The Huntington coaches will work with clinic participants on dribbling/ball handling, passing, shooting and defending skills. There will be fun drills and games as well as time set aside for some scrimmaging.

Boys of all levels of ability are welcome to attend the clinic. Players currently on the two Finley Middle School boys’ teams are especially encouraged to participate.

Clinic participants should come dressed to play. Varsity players will assist the coaches during the clinic.
