Flower Hill Class Participates in Video Conference

December 16, 2022

Flower Hill Primary School first graders in teacher Erika Brignati’s class had a blast this week participating in a video conference project sponsored by Western Suffolk BOCES.

Posters created by Flower Hill first graders.

“This past Wednesday, students culminated their weeks long project that included an experience within the local communities in Huntington,” Ms. Brignati explained. “This was aligned with the state standards where students read, spoke and listened. The project was based on the book ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle.’”

The Flower Hill youngsters teamed up to create posters and discussed the communities they live in with a class in the Middle Country school district.

The video conference program has been in place for many years and has been successful. Flower Hill students loved it.

“Two classrooms will pair up and students will compare what they see and experience within their local communities and create a class book or poster,” according to a program overview. “Students may suggest they see various animals, landscapes, town, city, etc. The book, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ will be used as the model. Each student will also create a puppet of his or her favorite animal in the story and share it with the partner class.”
