Blue Devils Go 4-0 at Locust Valley Duals

The Huntington wrestling team is off to a torrid start to the season. The Blue Devils won their own invitational and then went undefeated at the Locust Valley Duals last Saturday, besting four opponents by lopsided margins.

Huntington defeated Farmingdale (57-15), Island Trees (69-6), Locust Valley (46-26) and Harborfields (66-12).

Max Casiano improved his record to 9-0 with eight pins by pinning all four of his opponents at Locust Valley. Sam Nicotra also pinned his four foes in less than three minutes total and is now 8-0 with eight first period pins. Zachary Zboray went 4-0 with three pins to raise his record to 8-0 with six pins. Justin Villatoro pinned three foes and beat a fourth by a 10-2 major decision to improve to 8-0.

Jonathan Granito is also among the hottest Blue Devil matmen, going 4-0 with four pins last Saturday to improve on the season to 8-1. Christian St. John enjoyed a great day at Locust Valley with four wins and three wins to give the junior a 7-1 season mark with six pins.

Brett Bender won three-of-four matches and is now 7-2. Dante Salgado split a pair of matches and is 5-1 on the season. Walter Kusterbeck went 3-1 after being sidelined by illness and missing the season opening tournament. Enzo Pupillo also went 3-1 and is now 7-1.

Cristian Alfaro pinned two opponents to improve on the season to 5-1. Joe Algieri won all four of his matches to raise his mark to 7-1.

Huntington wrestles at Half Hollow Hills East on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Blue Devils host Newfield on Friday at 5 p.m. Huntington wrestles in the Jericho dual meet tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
