Virtual Enterprise Students Participate in Tech Talk

December 12, 2022

A delegation of four Huntington High School Virtual Enterprise program students and their teacher traveled to LIU Brooklyn for the latest Tech Talk seminar.

Students Sophie Lange, Brooke Parks, Adriana Abbatiello and Ruby Meindenman attended the session along with high school business teacher Paige Tyree Furman.

The seminar was focused on “entrepreneurship” and “how innovators build a business.” Successful executives and investors shared their stories of the business-building processes they followed.

“It was really interesting learning about the artificial intelligence and how it is affecting medicine and business,” Ms. Lange said. “All of the people were very sweet and inspiring to all of us.”

The session concluded with a competition that saw students make two minute pitch presentations to a group investors.

“It was very inspiring to learn about the presenter’s stories of how they started their businesses and the challenges they faced along the way,” Ms. Parks said. “I definitely learned a lot from them. It was also cool that one of them was a VE alum, who is now the co-founder of a very successful company, Lunchbox, which saves restaurants millions of dollars. The speakers of Mission 3a were also very interesting. It was very inspiring hearing Dr. Brook Bello’s and Matt Hostetler’s story. Mission 3a provides founders hands-on experience and practical advice for every step of the entrepreneurial journey which is basically venture studio verses capital.”

Long Island University and Virtual Enterprise are collaborating on the Tech Talks initiative. “the series brings technology, innovation and entrepreneurship directly to students,” states the program overview. Students learn about current trends in global technology, how it affects the way we live, the problems they solve and the opportunities it presents for business, innovation and careers and the future of work.

The Huntington contingent thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. “I had so much fun with Mrs. Furman and the girls,” Ms. Parks said. “We also got to learn about the future of artificial intelligence in health and business. It is very interesting to see how much it will affect our lives in the future.”
