Blue Devils Announce Winter Season Captains

The winter season is well underway at Huntington High School. Coaches of nine varsity teams have announced their captains and the group includes many familiar faces.

“Being a team captain means accepting responsibility for your team,” states the US Sports Camps website. “You become the team leader and must set the standard of what it means to be a great teammate. Team leaders are essential to executing your vision for your team and setting the tone for your teammates.”

The organization says the five qualities that make for a great team captain are: 1. Lead by example; 2. Be positive; 3. Communication; 4. Teach leadership; 5. Caring

Huntington’s winter season varsity team captains include:

Girls Basketball: Kayleigh Bender, Gianna Forte, Lauren Donaghy

Boys Basketball: Hunter Borenstein, James Viola, Joshua Stephen

Girls Winter Track & Field: Sophie Bradford, Megan Donaghy, Jannel Marroquin

Boys Winter Track & Field: Matthew Armstrong, Carmine Carusone, David Dje Bi, Kender Edouazin, Jahmar Francis, Nikolai Seferian

Boys Fencing: Jeffrey Garcia Cabrera, Liam Tucker

Girls Fencing: Fiona Brosnan, Haileigh Smith

Boys Swimming & Diving: Evan Spagnoletti, Pierre Leroy

Wrestling: Max Casiano, Christian St. John, Zachary Zboray

Bowling: Andrew Sullivan, Jack Ruthkowski

Unified Bowling: TBD

Winter season captains have been asked to help lead their teammates in completing a community service project involving the collection of winter clothing along with non-perishable goods. The items will be distributed throughout the local community to those most in need.
