Blue Devil Boys’ Basketball Opens Tonight at Harborfields

The Huntington High School boys’ basketball team opens the season with a non-league game tonight at Harborfields. Tipoff is 6:45 p.m. It’s the first game of the Peter Lipka coaching era for the Blue Devils.

The Huntington roster consists of freshmen Jordan Jones and Nicholas Normoyle; sophomores Justin D’Eloia, Nicholas Plachta and James Vohs; juniors Dillanger Albert, Harry Baliber, Jose Cabrera-Zelaya, Jr., Jayson Colato, John Genova, Thomas Girimonti, Eli Soric and Gradon Sosnowski; and seniors Hunter Borenstein, Joshua Stephen and James Viola.

Lipka is in his first year with the Blue Devils after taking over for departed head coach Kenneth Parham. Lipka previously served as a college assistant coach for 10 years at the US Merchant Marine Academy and LIU Post. He is a physical education teacher in Queens and lives in Woodbury.

Lipka will be assisted by Kevin Thorbourne. Jake Torres is Huntington’s junior varsity coach. The Blue Devils will be captained by Borenstein, Stephen and Viola.

Huntington will play a pair of non-league contests and 18 league games in what is regarded as perhaps one of the three toughest leagues in the states.

In addition to tonight’s non-league game at Haborfields, Huntington will host Islip in a non-league contest on December 20 at 6:45 p.m. Home and away league games are scheduled with West Islip, Half Hollow Hills East, Copiague, Smithtown West, North Babylon and Northport, Single league contests are set with Walt Whitman, Bay Shore, Commack, Lindenhurst, Brentwood and Central Islip,

Tonight’s varsity game will be preceded by a JV game between Huntington and Harborfields with the opening tipoff scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
