Girls’ Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day on Friday
October 7, 2022
The Huntington varsity girls’ volleyball team will celebrate Senior Day today (Friday) prior to a must-win showdown with powerful North Babylon. The Blue Devils, who are in the midst of a playoff drive, have returned to the friendly confines of Louis D. Giani Gymnasium, which reopened earlier this week after a long project that saw the entire floor replaced.
Huntington’s players and coaches will honor seniors Megan Donaghy, Rana Elfaham, Lauren Gennarelli, Renee McKean and Haileigh Smith during pre-match ceremonies tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. Head coach Todd Donaghy and underclassmen on the team will speak about each of the seniors and present them with gifts. Posters commemorating the careers of the seniors will be affixed to the walls of the gym.
The ceremonies and league match will be livestreamed on the Huntington Blue Devil Sports YouTube channel. A gift card in the amount of $50 will be presented to the “loudest fan.”
Parents of each of the seniors are expected to join the veteran players on the court during the pre-match ceremonies for the speeches and photos. A guest singer is expected to perform the national anthem.
Huntington’s JV team will play their North Babylon counterpart at 5 p.m. The Blue Devils are coached by high school physical education teacher Lauren Blackburn.
The Huntington varsity roster also includes underclassmen Emily Barba, Kathryn Barba, Brianna Borenstein, Lauren Donaghy and Neurdia Osias.
