Ava Tizzio is one of Huntington High School’s best and brightest. The incoming junior has excelled the past two years and is well-positioned to continue her great run. She has lined up courses that interest her and the teenager is also among the most talented members of the Highsteppers competitive dance team.
Ms. Tizzio is an enthusiastic, hardworking and fun-loving young woman. “I spent most of my summer hanging out with family and friends,” she said. “I also started practicing with the Highsteppers in early August.”
The Highsteppers have been working hard just about every day for the past month, training and rehearsing and getting their moves and routines down. Ms. Tizzio has been with her teammates and coaches Samantha Allen and Kristiana Salerno every step of the way.
The incoming junior is looking forward to several classes that she’s lined up. “I’m really interested in taking Virtual Enterprise,” said Ms. Tizzio about one of the high school’s popular business courses. “I’ve heard great things about this course and I’m excited to be able to work together with my classmates to learn how to create our own businesses.”
Ms. Tizzio devotes countless hours to the Highsteppers. “Ms. Allen has been my coach since I joined the Highsteppers,” she said. “This season we have a new addition to our team in Assistant Coach [Kristiana] Salerno. I’m excited to get to know her more and be able to have another coach supporting and mentoring us.”
The teenager has also addressed her creative side. “I have one of my favorite teachers, Mrs. [Ayallah] Jeddah again,” Ms. Tizzio said. “She was my teacher in Ceramics last year and this year I will have her as I move up to Ceramics II.”
The impressive young woman has been named the Highsteppers’ junior captain. “I also plan to be very involved with other clubs this school year,” Ms. Tizzio said. “I will return to be a member of both Key Club and Habitat for Humanity.”
Ms. Tizzio is determined to make her final two years in Huntington something that is both memorable and meaningful.
“My high school experience has been fun so far,” Ms. Tizzio said. “My freshman year was not the typical high school experience with COVID slowing down and limiting certain activities. But my sophomore year definitely made up for everything since I got to see a somewhat normal side of the high school experience.”
Looking ahead toward the future, Ms. Tizzio still sees many question marks. “I plan to take my first trip to look at some colleges along the East coast during the fall,” she said. “I don’t have any specific colleges or majors in mind yet.”
