Gabriella Miller is one of Huntington High School’s most creative seniors. She’s a delightful young woman with an artistic flair that few can match.
The teenager recently participated in the Huntington Art Council’s Nightmare on Main Street initiative. Ms. Miller submitted a photograph full of mystery. It is open to many interpretations and can fascinate a person for hours on end.

Titled “Illusions,” the teenager’s photograph measures 16”x20” and is both intriguing and thought-provoking at the same time. “It’s easy to conclude that Ms. Miller spent many hours working on it to get all facets of it “just right.”
“The image presented in this show is a surrealistic piece at Caumsett State Park in Lloyd Harbor,” wrote Ms. Miller in an artist’s statement that accompanied her work. The piece has a unique point of view as it showcases a dreamlike yet frightening science. I incorporated multiple pictures and layered them together to create a surreal image. I am hoping that the final piece evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity for my viewers.”
Ms. Miller is enrolled in Advanced Placement 2-D Art and Design with high school art teacher Pamela Piffard-Williams, who heads Huntington’s photography program and who is a professional photographer herself.
The senior is also taking classes in AP Psychology, AP US Government & Politics with economics, Bible as Literature, Physics Regents and Calculus.
Ms. Miller used her Canon Rebel t3i camera, a tripod and an empty picture frame to shoot “Illusions.” “My friend McKenna Buffa was the model,” she said. “I then edited the photo in Photoshop.”
The senior, who plays on the Blue Devil varsity soccer team, plans to study kinesiology in college on a pre-physical therapy or pre-physician assistant track. “Some of my top choices for school are University of Maryland, Northeastern University, UMass Amherst and the University of Pittsburgh,” Ms. Miller said..
