Huntington freshman Kiley Barch paced the Blue Devil varsity girls’ cross country team this fall. The teenager’s best time saw her cover the 2.5 mile race course in 18:31.
Barch closed out the season by earning Second Team All-League honors. The roster also included freshmen Mabelin Maldonado Licona and Kiera McGuire; juniors Cindy Alvarez, Jessica Kuom, Damaris Mani-Munoz, Andrea Mani-Munoz and Jannel Marroquin and senior Talia Addeo.
The Blue Devils finished third in six team Suffolk League III with wins over Half Hollow Hills East, Lindenhurst and North Babylon and losses to Northport and Connetquot.
“The top six girls will be returning next year,” head coach Mark Jackson said. “With a third place finish this year and the top six runners returning, the future is bright.”
The program’s goals include winning the league next fall and sending multiple runners to the state qualifier and ultimately to the state championships.
“I think the season was very, very successful and everyone worked extremely hard and we all put in a lot of hard work to see the improvement we were getting,” Kuom said. “I couldn’t be more proud of all the girls for all the hard work and effort they put in. Overall, it was extremely fun.”
