Kathryn Montefusco will be making a fourth trip to the state swimming and diving finals in Rochester after the Huntington High School senior turned in a series of exceptional performances at the Suffolk League I championships at Hauppauge last week.
The Blue Devil great captured first place and beat her personal best times in the 200 IM (2:08.23) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.49). She also medaled in the 200 medley relay. swimming the 50 breaststroke segment at breakneck speed.
“As a senior, she has qualified for the state championships in four events, which include the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke,” said Huntington head coach Christopher Helmke, who is assisted by Meg McConnell. “We look forward to more excellent performances at county championships at Stony Brook University on November 6 and the state finals in Rochesters on November 18-19.”
Swimming with the Blue Devil varsity, J. Taylor Finley Middle School eighth graders Sena Knopf and Gemma Beddell enjoyed personal best performances at the league championships in the 100 butterfly.
Montefusco has given a verbal commitment to swim on Villanova University’s NCAA Division I swimming and diving team. The senior is enjoying classes in Advanced Placement Biology, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Studio Art: Drawing, Pre-Calculus – Beacon program, Introduction to Photography and Participation in Government.
The teenager has been inducted into the four separate academic honor societies and she volunteers with Huntington High School’s Key Club chapter.
