Quincy Chery, Julio Martinez, Clayton Ward and Olivia Conte won Suffolk Class A titles in their respective events and the Blue Devil boys’ and girls’ 4x400m relay teams also captured county crowns at the Section XI track and field championships at Connetquot last week.
Chery won two gold medals, winning first place in the 400m hurdles and long jump and in the 4x400m relay. The teenager won the 400m hurdles in a time of 56.07 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 21-09.25 feet. He also finished second in the 110m hurdles in 15.49 seconds.
Martinez won the Suffolk Class A title in the 400m dash in a time of 49.96 seconds. He placed third in the 200m dash in 22.36 seconds. He later ran on the winning 4x400m relay team, which included Nick Grover, Kender Endouazin and Jahmar Francis and turned in a time of 3:26.93.
Ward amassed 2609 points in the five event pentathlon to win the Suffolk Class A title. Keegan Malone placed fifth with 2080 points. The pentathlon consists of the high jump, long jump, shot put, 110m hurdles and 1500m run.
Johan Fajardo finished third in high jump with a leap of 5-08 feet. Teammate Nikolai Lulewich placed ninth by clearing 5-03 feet.
Huntington placed three runners in the top six of the 400m dash. Nick Grover was third in 51.36 seconds while Endouazin (51.58) and Francis (51.76) finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Matteo Armstrong was fifth in the 3200m (10:23.07) and sixth in the 1600m (4:45.46). Dawin Preval was fifth in discus with a throw that measured 113-01 feet. Nikolai Seferian placed seventh in the 800m run in 2:05.50.
The 4x100m relay team consisting of Gabe Abreu, Johan Fajardo, David Dje Bi and Cristian Delgado placed fourth in a time of 46.07 seconds.
Olivia Conte Paces H-ton Girls
Olivia Conte won two Suffolk titles, capturing first place in both the 100m hurdles (15.13 seconds) and high jump (5-0 feet). She later teamed up with Hope Bilkey, Brianna Halbeisen and Analisse Batista to finish second in the 4x100m relay in a time of 50.72 seconds.
Batista finished third in the 200m dash in 27.78 seconds, a mere 5/100ths of a second off the winning time. Elizabeth James placed fourth in the 400m dash in 1:01.35. Andrea Mani-Munoz was seventh in the 1500m race walk in 8:50.69.
The Blue Devils won the 4x400 relay as James, Halbeisen, Batista and Megan Donaghy edged runner-up North Babylon with a time of 4:06.21.
