Consistency. It’s a word that sums up John Marziliano perfectly. The Huntington High School senior has a degree of reliability and level-headedness that is hard to match. He’s earned sterling grades and played on the varsity football team, doing it all with class. The teenager plans to study finance at Providence College in Rhode Island.
The senior said his “approach to success” involves balancing his academic responsibilities with his social life and sports commitments. Mr. Marziliano likes to keep busy and he cherishes the relationships he has formed with classmates and teammates. He’s made some great friendships along the way.
It’s not surprising that Mr. Marziliano carefully considered his options when it came time to choose a college. He read about their academic programs and the activities available to those living on campus and he visited several schools. When it came time to choose, he realized that Providence has everything he wants.
“The Providence campus has a warm feeling to it,” Mr. Marziliano said. “It’s also in a great location as it’s not too far from New York, New Haven or Boston.”
Recognized earlier this spring as a Distinguished Senior after compiling an impressive academic record over the past four years, Mr. Marziliano is a member of the National Honor Society and the Science and Math Honor Societies.
“I’m ready for college,” Mr. Marziliano said. “Huntington made me a more conscientious student and football made me a hard worker.
Mr. Marziliano played center on Huntington’s football team, which means he handled the ball on every single offensive play. It’s a big responsibility, but one that shows how much trust the Blue Devil coaches had in him.
“I plan on joining intramural sports to stay busy and active in college,” Mr. Marziliano said. It won’t be long before the Huntington senior starts making friends at Providence and developing the same type of durable relationships he has formed wherever he goes.
The years spent as a member of the Blue Devil football team produced memories for the teenager that will last a lifetime. Mr. Marziliano played for head coach Steven Muller, “who has made me a better person overall,” he said.
The time spent between graduation and the first day of college classes will give Mr. Marziliano one final opportunity to relax with family and friends before a new chapter opens in his life. He probably will gravitate to the water as frequently as possible.
“My favorite place to be in the world is in Fire Island because I love going to the beach,” Mr. Marziliano said.
The teenager really doesn’t draw much attention to himself. Instead, he goes about his business in an unassuming way and always gets the job done.
“The expectations of teachers and coaches makes Huntington, Huntington,” Mr. Marziliano said. “Long lasting traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation. Once you live in this town, you’re a part of it forever.”
The last day of classes is June 14 and graduation is less than two weeks later. Until then, Mr. Marziliano expects to enjoy himself and savor the final events of his high school experience.
“My experience in Huntington has been great,” Mr. Marziliano said. “Meeting people that I will stay connected with forever and being able to play football for my whole high school career has made it incredible. There is no better place than Huntington.”
