Regan Sansiviero is about to begin a new chapter in her life as she transitions from Huntington High School senior to Bucknell University freshman. The teenager has been recruited to play NCAA Division I lacrosse and that’s something to get excited about.
A dedicated athlete and motivated student and community member, Ms. Sansiviero has captained the Blue Devil varsity tennis, basketball and lacrosse teams. A high honor roll member, she has been inducted into the National Honor Society and the English Honor Society.
Repeatedly recognized as a New York State Scholar-Athlete during every high school sport season, Ms. Sansiviero has also garnered All-League and All-Division honors in tennis; All-Division recognition in lacrosse as a junior and she was named to the Academic All-County basketball team.
“Regan has a very calming personality that helps her teammates in many ways,” said Marissa Bergmann, a Huntington physical education teacher who has coached the teenager in both lacrosse and basketball. “She encourages her teammates, supports them and is always there to listen to them. She leads by example through her high level of play and hardworking determination. Regan’s outstanding work ethic on and off the court is unparalleled. She has been extremely dedicated to improving her skills during the off-season as well as during the season.”
In addition to sports, Ms. Sansiviero has devoted time to community service based clubs, including Key Club and Interact. She has volunteered for initiatives focused on helping others.
Ms. Sansiviero tallied 24 goals and 29 assists with the Blue Devil girls’ lacrosse team this spring, rarely coming off the field. At Bucknell, she plans to study business at the University’s Freeman College of Management.
“Regan has been a remarkable student-athlete during her time at Huntington,” Mrs. Bergmann said.” She has outstanding management skills that have allowed her to maintain a high academic average while playing three sports. She is a true role model for our youth in the community. When she is not on the field or in the gym she is a lifeguard at the Bay Club.”
Simply put, Ms. Sansiviero is a kind young woman with a sweet personality and a strong work ethic. She takes nothing for granted and is willing to put the time in to be successful at whatever she decides to.
“As her coach and mentor, it has been a true pleasure to see a hardworking, dedicated student athlete follow their dreams and succeed,” Mrs. Bergmann said. “I have no doubt that I will be hearing of the wonderful accomplishments Regan will have in her near future.”
