Sean Hassett is a Huntington High School senior who always keeps his eye on the ball. The teenager is competitive on the tennis court and also in the classroom. He plans to study sport and entertainment management at the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Hassett is very well liked around the high school. He’s equally popular with his classmates, teachers and coaches. An all-around good guy, he has earned excellent grades and been given the designation of Distinguished Senior following four years of academic success.
The teenager cited self-motivation and knowing what he wants to do with his life as the keys to his success. Mr. Hassett said he has “most enjoyed making friends and playing sports” during high school.
The senior has especially excelled on the Blue Devil tennis team. “As an athlete in my program, Sean has consistently displayed a strong work ethic, great character, good sportsmanship and was always a dedicated teammate,” Blue Devil varsity tennis coach Jamie Fishlow said.
Mr. Hassett gets along well with everyone, even his opponents, despite his competiveness. “I always found him to be highly coachable in that he was willing to learn new skills, techniques and strategies,” Coach Fishlow said. “Over the past two seasons he has been my first singles player, often playing the top players in Suffolk County. He has never backed down from this challenge and I am proud of the way he handles both success and failure on a daily basis.”
Always one to complete his due diligence before making a big decision, Mr. Hassett chose the University of South Carolina for good reason. “We were the first major university to create a separate department for the study of sport and entertainment management in a business curriculum,” the university brags on its website.
An affable young man with an engaging personality, Mr. Hassett has both fun-loving and serious sides. “Sean was willing to meet my expectations on a daily basis and was determined to never give less than 100 percent,” Coach Fishlow said. He possesses a positive attitude, integrity and respect. He has been an outstanding captain and a great player for Huntington.”
