Last Friday night under cloudy skies, Huntington was on fire early and built a 10-1 lead by halftime. Connetquot rallied in the second half, outscoring the Blue Devils, 5-2, but it wasn’t enough.
Robbie Smith had two goals and an assist on Friday night. Anthony Annunziata, Liam Lennon and Jack O’Brien also scored in the game. Aidan Carrello and Michael Kline both had assists. Goalie Sammy Mac Arner recorded eight saves.
McNulty (22 goals; 36 assists) and Maichin (28g; 14a) were nearly impossible to stop in the final regular season game of their Blue Devil careers. Smith (31g; 17a) also played a great game as did Annunziata (18g; 6a), Lennon (30g; 13a) and O’Brien (6g; 4a).
When Connetquot rallied in the second half, Huntington needed its entire lineup to step up to stop the Thunderbirds and the Blue Devils responded. The two teams played through about 15 minutes of rain in the second half, which slowed down the action.
Huntington concluded the regular season with an 11-3 record in league play and 11-4 overall. Connetquot finished at 8-6 in league games and 9-6 overall.
