Huntington senior Caitlin Murtagh will be attending Sacred Heart University

Caitlin Murtagh’s secret to her success is simple: Hard work and determination. The Huntington High School senior is among the top members of the Class of 2022 and is popular with everyone. She is headed to Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, where she plans to study marketing/sports marketing.

“The first time I walked onto Sacred Heart’s campus, I just had a really good feeling and could see myself being a student there,” Ms. Murtagh said. “I am planning to study marketing and my dream job would be marketing for a professional sports team.”

The senior is a great student and an all-around wonderful young woman. Ms. Murtagh has regularly garnered a spot on the high school’s high honor roll. She earned the designation of Distinguished Senior after compiling a 90 or better academic average during every semester of high school.

“Huntington offers a wide variety of classes, which allows you to explore your interests,” Ms. Murtagh said. “I really enjoyed Sports Marketing and Virtual Enterprise, which helped guide me in choosing a major for college. Over the past four years, I have also learned the importance of managing my time and being organized.”

The teenager has been involved in the high school’s robotics program, volunteered with the Key Club chapter and served with the student government since her freshman year. Ms. Murtagh has also performed with both the chamber choir and the a capella chorus.

“I plan to get involved in the choir program and academic clubs at Sacred Heart,” Ms. Murtagh said.

During the spring break in April, Ms. Murtagh traveled to London with her family. “I had a great time and it was very cool to see so many things I learned in history,” she said.

A member of multiple academic honor societies, Ms. Murtagh takes all of her classes and activities seriously and she is well known for always acting professionally. It’s among the reasons that high school faculty members think so highly of her.

“Caitlin is as good as it gets,” Mrs. Tyree-Furman said. “She’s every teacher’s dream student; hardworking, respectful, creative and dependable. During remote learning she was the best participator on Google Meets. She didn’t let the new challenges overwhelm her or stop her from putting out her very best work. But that’s Caitlin. Anytime she’s faced with a challenge she works that much harder to meet her very high expectations. I was lucky enough to have Caitlin as my intern and it was the highlight of my school year. She’s just always so positive and funny and always asking what she can do to help. She actually developed and presented her own lessons to the class and the other students really enjoyed her teaching style and were truly engaged. Not many teenagers would be comfortable enough to teach their peers, but Caitlin did it with such confidence and grace. She is such an exceptional student and Sacred Heart is so lucky to have her!”

Ms. Murtagh’s upbeat personality and work ethic will be sorely missed around Huntington High School next fall, but her teachers are united in their belief that she is headed for success at Sacred Heart University and beyond.

“Huntington is a great place to grow up,” Ms. Murtagh said. “There’s always something going on whether at the school or in town and there is a real sense of community. I never expected to have such strong connections with teachers and so many of them have had such an impact on me. My sports marketing  internship with Ms. [Paige] Tyree has also given me a different perspective and she is an amazing role model. I am grateful Huntington has this program because it has taught me a lot and is really rewarding.”
