The Huntington High School drama club and its actors captured a spectacular 16 Hunting-Tony Award nominations for its fall and spring stage productions of “The Curious Savage” and “42nd Street.”
Hunting-Tony Awards judges watched every high school drama club production in the town over the past year, forming the basis for the nominations and ultimate honors in each category.
This year’s award recipients will be announced during a ceremony in the Huntington High School on Monday, June 6. The nominees will walk the red carpet outside the building at 6 p.m. The ceremony kicks off at 7 p.m.
Huntington High School actors have fared well in previous years. Drama club faulty advisor Michael Schwendemann is excited that his program has received so many nominations.
Huntington’s nominees in the drama category include:
• Best Play: Huntington High School – “The Curious Savage”
• Best Ensemble in a Play: Huntington High School – “The Curious Savage”
• Best Lead Actress in a Play: Lily Tierney
• Best Supporting Actor in a Play: Jack Semelsberger
• Best Costumes in a Play: Huntington High School – “The Curious Savage”
• Best Stage Set Design for a Play: Huntington High School – “The Curious Savage”
• Best Stage Crew for a Play: Huntington High School – “The Curious Savage”
• Best Technical Production for a Play: Huntington High School – “The Curious Savage”
Huntington’s nominees in the musical category include:
• Best Lead Actor in a Musical: Mack Brunner
• Best Ensemble in a Musical: Huntington High School – “42nd Street”
• Best Featured Actor in a Musical: David Chavez
• Best Choreography for a Musical: Huntington High School – “42nd Street”
• Best Female Vocalist for a Musical: Josie Sullivan
• Best Male Vocalist for a Musical: Mack Brunner
• Best Costumes for a Musical: Huntington High School – “42nd Street”
• Best Stage Set Design for a Musical: Huntington High School – “42nd Street”
A select group of students will perform for the crowd, expected to number in the hundreds. Many of the nominees are expected to come decked out in tuxedos and evening gowns. This is their night to shine.
