The Finley fall sports season is already coming into focus

May 4, 2022

Next fall’s athletic season is already coming into focus for Blue Devil coaches. There will be expanded opportunities in several sports for seventh and eighth grade girls.

To participate on a fall team at Finley, students must have a current physical on file with the school nurse. An interval health history form must be submitted within 30 days of the start of the season. A signed parent consent form must be given to the coach on or before the first practice.

All Finley athletes must be cleared and “requalified” by the school nurse prior to the first practice. The nurse will clear seventh and eighth grade fall season athletes on August 30 and August 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Students should submit the interval health history form at that time.

The district physician will be available at Finley on Thursday, September 1 at 8 a.m. for school physicals. Student-athletes taking a school physical on that date must submit the completed interval health history form to the nurse at that time.

Finley fall athletes can also sign-up and get cleared on the first two days of school during lunch periods: September 6 and September 7.

The Finley fall sports lineup is an impressive one. The Blue Devils will field football, field hockey, girls’ tennis and co-ed cross country teams along with two boys’ soccer and two girls’ soccer teams. Finley seventh and eighth graders who qualify through the Athletic Placement Process will be eligible to participate on the brand new varsity girls’ gymnastics team.

Current sixth and seventh graders can reach out to athletic director Jim Hoops (jhoops@hufsd.edu) if they are interested in participating in girls’ gymnastics.

Football tryouts will begin on Tuesday, September 6. All of Finley fall sports will hold their first practice session on Wednesday, September 7 from 3-5 p.m. Varsity girls’ gymnastics will begin on Monday, August 22. The team will hold practices at Harborfields High School.
