Emily Plachta scored 27 points and was voted the game’s Most Valuable Player as the Huntington High School senior led the Town of Huntington team over the Town of Smithtown, 79-40 in the Suffolk Police Athletic League’s All-Star Exceptional Senior Girls’ Basketball Challenge championship game at Patchogue-Medford on Sunday.
Plachta was simply magnificent, scoring from all over the court and playing tough defense. Huntington senior Makaylah Frazier, who is headed to SUNY Brockport to play basketball, scored seven points in the game.
Makaylah Frazier holds the championship trophy and Emily Plachta has the MVP Award.
“It was an honor to be chosen to play in the all-star game as well as to receive the MVP Award,” Plachta said. “Bringing home the win for Huntington as well as playing my last ‘high school game’ with some of the same people I first started playing basketball with was really special and a great way to end this part of my career. I’m really excited to see where my basketball journey continues.”
An excellent student academically who is on the Huntington’s High Honor Roll, Plachta was second in Suffolk in scoring this past season, averaging 24.4 points per game. She scored her 1,000th point in a February playoff game against Centereach and ended her Blue Devil career with 1,063 points.
The gifted senior hasn’t announced her college plans other than to say she plans to play basketball and is considering several offers. Plachta expects to make a final decision soon.
