Caroline Gorecki knows what she loves and what excites her and the Huntington High School senior intends to pursue her dreams and interests at Florida Atlantic University.
“I’ve decided on Florida Atlantic University because it is the best school and location for me to further my education,” Ms. Gorecki said. “I intend to major in biological sciences with a focus on marine biology.”
The teenager is a great student and is a regular on the high school’s honor roll. “Huntington has nurtured a comfortable learning environment,” Ms. Gorecki said. “I have received a huge amount of support from teachers and peers and it allowed me to create relationships that furthered me in my educational interests.”
Ms. Gorecki is planning to study abroad while enrolled at Florida Atlantic. “Traveling is vital for marine biology and it would give me the best opportunities for hands on studying,” she said.
The teenager’s post-Huntington graduation plans are already set. She intends to jump right into the water, literally, and get a head start toward where she wants to take her life.
“Over the summer I will be going on a trip to Baja, Mexico through the organization SeaSmart,” Ms. Gorecki said. “SeaSmart is a charity that delivers innovative and engaging education programs to empower youth, educators, businesses and communities to make a positive impact on our oceans. While in Mexico, I will have the amazing opportunity to dive with sharks, rays, and other marine life, and gain hands on experience. My main career goal will be to add to shark conservation efforts, as they are a surprisingly important animal in all marine environments. Being able to dive with them is an extremely exciting opportunity for me.”
Ms. Gorecki has played four years of volleyball with the Blue Devils. “I’m extremely grateful for my time on the team since it taught me the importance of working with others and provided insight into what it takes to be a proficient leader,” she said.
Florida Atlantic University is located in Boca Raton. It enrolls 25,000 undergraduates and another 5,000 students studying on the graduate and doctoral levels. Its athletic program competes in NCAA Division I. The school’s main campus consists of 850 acres.
The Huntington senior is always looking to grow as a person. “I have traveled, but intend to travel more internationally,” Ms. Gorecki said. “Personally, Florida has provided the most immersive experiences. I’ve fished and swam in amazingly active waters with sharks swimming three feet away from me and seen all types of interesting marine life in action.”
Ms. Gorecki is easygoing and easy to get along with. “Huntington is a place where relationships are easy to make and teachers care about your personal well-being,” she said. “No matter the circumstances, staff and peers have your best interest in mind and will guide you through any challenges you may face.”
While Ms. Gorecki is heading out of state for college, and perhaps even out of the country for additional studies in the field, she will always remember her hometown and her soon to be alma mater.
“I’m extremely grateful for my time here and have learned fundamental things for continuing onward with my journey,” Ms. Gorecki said. “I would not trade my Huntington experience for the world and will forever be a Blue Devil.”
