The teenager said his love for photography began on a trip to San Diego with his mother. “I had my iPhone 5g with me at the time and started photographing pictures of the ocean and waves and the seals lying on the rocks,” Mr. Borovica said. “From this moment on I developed my passion for photography and fell in love with it.”

The teenager is currently studying with Huntington art teacher Pamela Piffard-Williams, who leads the high school’s photography program.

“I woke up bright and early,” said Mr. Borovica in an artist’s statement accompanying his artwork. “My dad and I put our bikes on the car’s roof racks and started our journey to NYC. We parked in SoHo and let the adventure begin. I started shooting in SoHo and around Little Italy. With our bikes, there was endless possibility to capture this city’s beauty. We headed to downtown Manhattan and we stopped at the Freedom Tower and captured a beautiful shot. I continued to make my way to the Manhattan Bridge and captured yet another panorama photograph. I was filled with thrills and joy with my journey.”

This year’s High Arts Showcase XVIII will run through April 9. “The High Arts Showcase exhibition is an opportunity for young artists in Journey program partner schools to present their artwork in a gallery setting,” according to the Huntington Arts Council. “These students learn firsthand what is involved throughout a gallery exhibition; from submitting entries and writing an artist statement to titling, framing and pricing their artwork.”

The Main Street Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment at other times. Call in advance for visitation on Saturday and Sunday.
