Washington Primary School students are doing their best, working closely with their teachers and having fun with their classmates. When the names of the latest group of Washington Ways Award recipients sounded out over the building’s public address system, many of the youngsters had smiles on their faces and they hustled their way down to the main lobby to be presented with a certificate and have their photo taken.
“Our Washington winners were able to spread kindness, be respectful and responsible throughout the month of February,” Principal Michelle Richards said. “These students worked hard every day and never gave up. Their teachers, classmates and Washington family are so proud of their efforts.
The entire classes of Melissa Mazzalonga and Vanessa Ulloa were also honored for the splendid work, effort and performance throughout February.
February’s award recipients include Mykaela Ramirez, Sarah Royce, Kevin Cruz-Melendez, Nikola Gaitan, Christina Divers, Yuliet Bonilla, Olivia Van Cott, Julia Getter, Zechariah Terry-Wade, Aleena Carbone, Charlotte LaMendola, Lana Thomas, Nicholas Zielinski, Gavin Zarcone, Dylan Portillo, Samantha Graber and Matthew Marsala.
This is how the Washington Ways program works:
White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
Red tickets are presented to individuals for notable good behavior outside of classrooms, including in hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate.
Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall.
