The Huntington High School prom shaped up to be an incredible evening of food, fun and friendship. The sold-out event at Water’s Edge in Centerport last Thursday night drew a crowd of 303, which packed the dance floor and sent the building rocking.
Seniors Erik Flores Reyes and Yanira Rivera were crowned prom king and queen by a vote of the prom-goers. The teenagers had a choice of three entrees, including “signature cut” filet mignon, chicken nuptial and grilled Atlantic salmon.
“Prom was such a fantastic night’ one to never forget,” Ms. Rivera said. “I was surrounded by wonderful friends and had the best date anyone could hope for. The moment the dance floor began to shake from how much fun everyone was having is a wonderful way to sum up the evening.”
Principal Brenden Cusack, Assistant Principals Gamal Smith and Jully Williams and assorted faculty staff were on hand for the festivities, but didn’t get in the way of the prom-goers. Even Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky stopped by to take photos.
“I think that prom went absolutely spectacular,” Class of 2022 Vice President Ashley Genao said. “After a year-long planning process with all the Class of 2022 officers, everything came together just as we imagined. I was so happy to have that night and spend it with my classmates for one final evening before we went off to graduate. I am so happy that we were able to put together this prom for the Class of 2022 as they needed something that felt normal. I had a great time and I’m sure it that all the seniors did, too.”
The teenagers were able to spend some extended time outside on the expansive patio area overlooking the water. The prom-goers used the opportunity to pose for an endless series of photos.
“Decorated with a sunset for the gods, prom was fabulous,” senior Sydney Cordeiro said. “Prom was a marvelous event that you could tell was planned down to the minute detail.”
Few left early as the dance floor remained the most popular area in the room. Class of 2022 faculty advisors Patricia Avelli and Donna Nugent were on hand to quickly address any snafus that arose.
“Prom was a blast,” senior Kevin Drake said. “My friends and I were not expecting to have such a good time. The people in charge of it did a great job planning. It was a great way to close out the year.”
The teenagers looked gorgeous, wearing a mix of clothing that ranged from classic to ultra-hip. No one seemed to either notice or mind a few hiccups here and there. They were having too much fun.
“Prom was one of the best nights of my life,” senior Quincy Chery said. “A night where I was able to have fun with all my classmates. It was a night that I will never forget.”
