Katie Reilly always finds a way to make learning new skills and practicing them fun. She did it last winter as the Blue Devil JV girls’ basketball coach when she won nine games and Coach of the Year honors and she did again this past spring as a Huntington varsity girls’ lacrosse coach. Expect it one more time at the Huntington Booster Club’s girls’ basketball camp for those entering grades 3-9.
Coach Reilly is a 2016 Huntington High School grad and after playing at Princeton University and earning a degree there and then obtaining a master’s degree at Stony Brook University she is back in the Blue Devil fold and excited to work with girls’ basketball players during the camp, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, June 27, Wednesday, June 29, Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1. (There is no camp on Tuesday, June 28 to New York State primary elections.)
The camp will be held in the cozy Washington Primary School gym. Registration is now open. The camp fee totals $150. Coach Reilly will make sure it’s worth every penny of that and more.

“Coach Reilly just has a way of making sports fun, even when you are working really hard,” said a Blue Devil athlete on the JV basketball team last winter. “She cares about every player and she uses every single practice to make us better.”
The Huntington Booster Club has been offering a summer camp program for many years. “We offer high-quality competitive camps to meet the needs of our Huntington children,” states the Booster Club’s camp philosophy. “We strive to create a healthy, safe and competitive environment where our campers will work to improve individual and team skills, learn sportsmanship and self-confidence and appreciate the physical benefits of athletics. Taught by many of our best Huntington coaches, our camps strive to teach campers the importance of physical training through strategic, tactical and technical drills.”
Registration can be completed in a matter of minutes online. Coach Reilly has been working on her camp plans for months and is excited to work with whoever turns out next week.
“It is our goal to enable each athlete to learn and improve his or her respective skill level,” according to the Booster Club. “Finally, our camps encourage youngsters to enrich themselves through self-motivation and self-discipline and reinforce leadership and socialization as it is our belief that these values will help instill in our campers skills that they will need for life.”
