Not even a sudden power outage was able to take the shine off a really wonderful evening at the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School’s amphitheater as a group of talented teenagers performed at this year’s Tri-M Music Honor Society Senior Showcase this past Wednesday night.
Just as the event was about to get underway, power went out in the local area. It threw a wrench into the usually well-oiled gears, but the group soldiered on and eventual district facilities staff members were able to establish auxiliary power for the sound system.
The performances included dance, vocals and instrumentals, including some great strings numbers. The audience included family, friends and faculty members, including Superintendent James W. Polansky and Principal Brenden Cusack.
Seniors Hannah Roberts, Sarah Berry, Alexis Kaloudis, Cassidy Casabona, Erin Ye, Allison Quinn, David Chavez, Matthew Levinson, Sydney Cordeiro, Lauren Landolfi and Christina Drummings performed. Some of the teenagers performed more than one.
The music ranged from Sebastian Lee, Taylor Swift, Stephen Sanchez and Elton John to John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, Joe Hisaishi, Bach and Harry Warren.
The one hour showcase was delightful. The crowd included Huntington School Board President Christine Biernacki and Trustee Michele Kustera.
Tri-M faculty advisor Victoria Garbarino coordinated the evening.
