An enchanted evening of student performances thrilled the crowd filling the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School’s courtyard amphitheater under starry skies last Friday night.
Billed as Cabaret Night, the program featured an exceptional group of teenage voices. The event raised funds for the choral program. Many in the crowd came an hour early and enjoyed dinner inside the building prior to the show.
Cabaret Night saw many talented teenagers perform.
Restaurants contributing delicious food dishes included Tim and Kendal-Leigh O’Neill, Mr. Sausage, New York Panini, Wok N’ Roll, Elsie Lane Wing House of Huntington, Parea Restaurant & Snack Bar, Christopher’s Pub & Eatery and Leilu.
The evening’s performers included Jack Semelsberger, Alexis Rodriguez, Jake Amend, Dylan Brinn, Mack Brunner, David Chavez , Sam James, Shannon Milner, Sam Soric, Hannah Roberts, Sofia Rodriguez, Maggie O’Toole, Sophia Weiss, Markus Fehrenbacher, Layna Abraham, Liva Camarata, Delia Caruso, Sydney Cordeiro, Michaela Dopico, Zoe Dumas, Lauren Holly, Chloe Hunt, Emily Kustera, Isabella Lanfranco, Mia Molina, Caitlin Murtagh, Alexa Schirripa, Josie Sullivan and Ashley Genao.
It was a perfect moment in time for the teenagers. “I felt Cabaret Night was fantastic,” Ms. Genao said. “It was bittersweet as it was my last one, especially since I have been here since the first Cabaret Night they put on. Being able to sing in front of family and friends was a very special moment that I will cherish. This night was for such a good cause; to raise funds for the choral program. I feel everyone sounded absolutely amazing and that’s all thanks to our wonderful teacher and friend Ms. Garbarino. I can’t wait to return next year to see it all happen again.”
Everyone seemed to love the show, especially the students themselves. “Cabaret Night was amazing,” Mr. Chavez said. “The performances were very entertaining. The singers are very talented. I can’t wait to see what happens next year.”
The crowd included several Huntington School Board members and Superintendent James W. Polansky.
“I am so proud of everyone who performed in Cabaret Night,” said music teacher Victoria Garbarino, who leads the high school’s choral program. “Thank you to all of the parents for helping to make the night possible and to the local restaurants for donating trays of food.”
“Cabaret Night was a wonderful evening,” said Brian Stellato, Thank you to everyone who joined us to support our Huntington High School choral program.”
No sooner had the show ended, than planning commenced on 2023’s Cabaret Night, including suggestions for making the amphitheater and courtyard even more enchanting.
“The talent among Huntington students clearly knows no boundaries and what a pleasure to have an event of this nature through which they can display those talents in such a fun and engaging manner and in a terrific outdoor venue,” Mr. Polansky said. “I look forward to many more such events moving forward.”
