Teddy Tiliakos always has something interesting to say. The Huntington High School senior is a personable and articulate young man who has earned stellar grades. Named a Distinguished Senior earlier this spring, the teenager plans to study chemistry at Northeastern University in Boston.
Mr. Tiliakos has been shining in Huntington UFSD classrooms since his earliest days of kindergarten at Washington Primary School. He’s well-informed and can carry a conversation on just about any topic. The teenager is steady; reliable and all-around consistent.
The senior said his success can be attributed to “having great teachers” who have pushed him out of his comfort zone. He has excelled in challenging courses. Mr. Tiliakos said that balancing school and sports has contributed to the discipline he has always displayed.
Mr. Tiliakos enjoys athletics and he’s especially good at basketball and track and field. He plays to win and is the type of athlete that any coach would be happy to have on his team.
Relationships matter to Mr. Tiliakos and forming close ones with classmates and teachers has been among the most gratifying parts of the past four years.
Arguing a point with the high school’s debate team and mastering how technology works with Huntington’s robotics team have been just two of Mr. Tiliakos’ extracurricular activities. He’s volunteered with the Key Club, performed with the chamber orchestra and impressed everyone on the Science Olympiad team.
Northeastern bills itself as “a university like no other.” Founded in 1898, it’s highly regarded and boasts 58 undergraduate majors. Its acceptance rate is 20.5 percent.
“At Northeastern, experience is our essence and ethos,” states the university’s website. “It’s what you gain when you make the world your classroom, your laboratory and your platform to create change or grow your enterprise. Throughout our university network, experience draws you into society and compels you to solve its complex challenges. It makes you agile and able to reinvent yourself. To find ways of doing things differently, and better. And to seize opportunities as they unfold—anytime, anywhere.”
Considering his formidable intellect, work ethic and academic record, Mr. Tiliakos appears well-positioned for the same kind of success in college that he has achieved as one of the top members of Huntington’s Class of 2022.
