After reaching the Suffolk playoffs and falling to William Floyd, 10-6, several Huntington High School girls’ lacrosse team members have garnered post-season awards.

Katie Browne and Gianna Forte were named to the All-County team. Regan Sansiviero captured All-County Honorable Mention recognition. Gretel Cassell, Tallulah Pitti, Emily Plachta and Grace Agrillo were named All-Division.

Browne tallied 39 goals and 17 assists from her attack position. She is headed to Bucknell University, which recruited the senior to play on its NCAA Division I lacrosse team. A talented midfielder, Forte scored 46 goals and added 12 assists. The junior has given Stony Brook’s lacrosse team a verbal commitment.

Sansiviero has also been recruited by Bucknell to play lacrosse. The senior notched 24 goals and 29 assists.

Cassell, still another senior, will be playing on Binghamton’s NCAA Division I team. She had 22 goals and three assists this spring.

Seniors Plachta and Pitti were both defensive stars. Plachta plans to play basketball at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Pitti is headed to the University of Virginia, which was founded by Thomas Jefferson.

Agrillo, who excelled at defense as a junior, is committed to play for Binghamton’s women’s lacrosse team after she graduates in June 2023.

Huntington compiled an overall record of 9-8 under first year head coach Shea Scully and assistant coaches Katie Reilly and Chris Taylor.

“Our team had to be flexible due to unforeseen injuries and absences that occurred throughout the season,” Scully said. “Our players definitely rose to the occasion by filling the positions that were needed. With game altering changes happening frequently, the team continued to stay positive and put its best foot forward. We were a very strong family unit, which was shown on and off the field.”

Injuries to key starters Laurel Bonn and Kayleigh Bender were among the most painful for Huntington.

“We are losing seven seniors, including six starters, which will leave us with big shoes to fill,” Scully said. “We finished sixth in the division, which gave us a first round playoff bye. We will need to keep an eye on the talent coming up from the middle school, especially for the goalie position. We had a lot of young talent on our team this year, which makes us hopeful for the future of this program.”
