The Huntington High School varsity and JV girls’ tennis teams are eyeing the start of the 2022 fall season. The Blue Devils will hit the courts for the first day of practice on Monday, August 22 at 7:30 a.m.
The Huntington varsity will be coached by Jamie Fishlow with the JV squad being led by Eric Mininni. The Blue Devils expect to be competitive in league play. The schedule consists of 13 meets in including mandatory non-league matches against Sayville and Copiague and league contests with Commack, Harborfields, Northport, Kings Park, Half Hollow Hills East, Smithtown East, Walt Whitman, Half Hollow Hills West, Hauppauge, Elwood-John H. Glenn and Smithtown West.
A pair of graduating Blue Devil players shared Most Valuable Senior Award honors at the 54th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony. Fishlow presented Tallulah Pitti and Alyson Baker were handsome plaques after the duo completed magnificent playing careers for Huntington.
An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Pitti is headed to the University of Virginia where she plans to major in data sciences. She said the key to her success has been organization and time management. The teenager took delight in meeting new people in classes and athletics and participating in social events, including football games and the homecoming week bonfire.
Baker will be attending Indiana University-Bloomington where she intends to study business and management. She cites teacher support, organizational skills and time management as the keys to here success. She thoroughly enjoyed playing on the Blue Devil tennis team, volunteering with Huntington’s Key Club and Interact chapters and spending time with her friends.
Varsity veterans set to return this fall include Kate Balm, McKenna Buffa, Anna Larson, Daniella Luca, Isabella Palacios and Anna Bell Young. Returning from last year’s JV will be Jane Callery, Keira Coulter, Keylis Flores-Velasquez, Vincenza Garofalo, Amanda Ganley, Isabella Holland, Ellie Kaufman, Mia Kaufman, Emily Kustera, Tess Markotsis, Elizabeth Michaelson, Kimberly Panameno and Claire Parks.

Every student needs to get re-qualified by the school nurse prior to each sport season. The nurse can only clear a student-athlete who has the following forms on file:

Those who want to participate on the girls’ tennis team should report to the Huntington High School nurse’s office on Wednesday, August 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon or Thursday, August 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to submit their private physical exam (if necessary) and interval health history forms. Any student who wants a physical exam by the school doctor should report to the nurse’s office at 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 18.
All Blue Devil sports student-athletes are also required to submit a blue parent permission form to their coach no later than the first day of tryouts/practice.
