Brendan Rubery has captured this year’s Principal’s Award at Huntington High School where the teenager recently completed a sensational four year run culminating in graduation with the Class of 2022.
Principal Brenden Cusack presented Mr. Rubery with the award, which consists of a plaque and a $1,000 stipend. The teenager believes his perseverance to “keep up” with his work in every class has been the key to his success.

Mr. Rubery said that he especially enjoyed “field trips and seminars and meeting new people.” He took delight in participating in the poetry club’s activities. He works hard to be the best person possible and displays a positive attitude throughout any given day.
The teenager can play piano and flute. He has enjoyed classes in media art and studio art as well as computer graphics and computer integrated manufacturing. His interests extend to Habitat for Humanity, chess club, the school newspaper and the high school’s literary magazine Etcetera.
“Brenden comes across as an individual determined to take on any challenge, regardless of its depth,” said Michael Graziano, a Huntington High School math teacher. “He identifies problems, evaluates its components and rises to the occasion without looking back. More often than not, the result of acting with such confidence and courage produces success.”
Mr. Rubery has also shown an artistic flair over the past four years. “He understands the complexities of each project from a technical standpoint, but also demonstrates the value of thinking divergently when approaching each design problem,” said teacher Kamira Mohanty, who worked with Mr. Rubery in Media Art and computer graphics classes. “He is curious and it shows in his artwork.”
Mr. Cusack presented the award to Mr. Rubery during this year’s senior scholarship and awards night in the high school auditorium.
