Xiara Suarez is a delightful young woman with a strong work ethic and an unsurpassed love for family. The Huntington High School Class of 2022 member captured this year’s Promising Young Writer Award. She plans to study at Suffolk County Community College’s western campus in Brentwood as she goes about discerning her career interests.
“Xiara Suarez is the kind of young lady that people love to be around; adults and teenagers alike,” said Bernadette Walsh, the high school’s college advisor. “Her infectious laugh, wide smile, energetic personality and academic drive are just a few of the strong character traits that she exhibits. She is a young woman who is passionate about life. She lives each day to the fullest extent and has an unfaltering confidence in herself.”
Ms. Suarez’s parents are immigrants and she has achieved an awful lot to make them proud. Outside of school she has worked at a local supermarket and helped her family pay its bills.
A very solid student academically, Ms. Suarez “is not afraid of a challenge,” Mrs. Walsh said. “She also has strong morals and values that she lives by. She who she is and what is really important in her life. She doesn’t need to follow the crowd because she already knows where she is going. She stands up for her beliefs and will be missed by this high school.”
English teacher Michael Schwendemann announced Ms. Suarez as this year’s Promising Young Writer Award recipient.
