Lauren Landolfi is completely enjoying her senior year at Huntington High School, where she has been discerning her college and career interests over the past four years. She’s had a great time, but just like her classmates, she is set to move on with her life in an exciting way.
“As of now I’ve been accepted into my top choices for universities and I’ve been very interested in George Mason University due to its well-established criminology and forensics program and its extensive music programs and activities offered on campus,” Ms. Landolfi said. “I plan on studying criminology at college with a possible dual major in computer science as the combination of the two could provide a very interesting and beneficial course load.”
The senior said she is interested in the FBI’s college recruitment program and working in the organization in a technical analyst position within one of its units. “I was accepted into a week-long summer program at the FBI’s New York field office to get an idea of what the different units consist of and the experience has left me interesting in pursuing it,” Mr. Landolfi said.
The teenager said she has always been interested in social science and English related classes at the high school. “Some of the most memorable have been through those very subjects with classes such as AP Global History, AP Psychology and Criminal Justice,” Ms. Landolfi said. “The most valuable classes I have taken so far have been my AP Seminar and AP Research classes as I feel the information and techniques I’ve learned in terms of writing a research paper or giving a thorough presentation will be very valuable in the future.”
Ms. Landolfi has developed close and rewarding relationships with high school teachers Brian Stellato, Lauren Desiderio, Jason Giachetti and Aimee Antorino.
“Teachers like Mr. Stellato and Mrs. Desiderio have always been important to my time at high school as I’ve spent so many years with them, that they’ve come to know me very well and have helped me through some of the rougher parts of high school,” Ms. Landolfi said. “Mr. Stellato has been my marching band instructor for four years, the wind ensemble instructor for four year, as well as my junior band instructor. Mrs. Desiderio has been my history and psychology teacher for three years of my time here and I appreciate everything they have done for me throughout my time here.”
The teenager is a musician and she’s performed with the Blue Devil marching band as well as the wind ensemble and jazz ensemble “ever since I started going to the high school and it’s made up a large part of how I interact with the community and the different people I’ve come to know and become close with,” Ms. Landolfi said.
The senior has done a fair amount of traveling, too. “Almost every summer I’ve traveled to a different national park across the country as the different experiences these places provide are invaluable,” Ms. Landolfi said. “My favorite place that I’ve visited is the Grand Canyon as I took a three day long hiking trip to Havasu Falls, ten miles into the canyon and the experience of camping in the wilderness so far away from any city and under the stars was a unique venture that I’ll always remember.”
Ms. Landolfi is a big fan of the high school. “Huntington has always been a very diverse and accepting place that in most instances makes you feel very welcome and like you’ve found a place you really belong,” she said.
“All things considered, I have enjoyed my time at Huntington and although there have been many periods of time where life got very stressful and overwhelming, there are so many memories that I’ve made with past students and even throughout my senior year that will remain with me,” Ms. Landolfi said.
