Kiana Nosile has battled back from injury to shine in several meets with the Huntington High School winter track and field team. The senior is ranked No. 1 in the state in shot put after a stunning performance that helped her capture the league championship last Saturday at Suffolk-West in Brentwood.
Nosile has rebounded from a freak injury, regaining her form and repeatedly launching the shot put in excess of 40 feet. At last weekend’s league championships, the Blue Devil star threw the weighted ball 42-09 feet to set a new Huntington High School record in the event. Her previous best throw, recorded earlier this month was 40-11 feet.
The senior is in the midst of a structured regiment that has been made all the more difficult due to frigid winter temperatures and the recent unavailability of the high school gym. Indoor throwing practice has shifted to Jefferson Primary School during after school hours there. But Nosile has successfully navigated over and around any bumps in the road.
As her technique has been refined the results have been spectacular for Nosile. Has she reached her limit? Probably not. She will have several more opportunities to set a new standard for the Blue Devils.
Can the teenager win the state shot put championship? New York’s best will gather on Saturday, March 5 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex at Staten Island. Nosile will be there, striving to capture gold and to make Blue Devil history again.
