Kathryn Sanseviro is one of Huntington High School’s spectacular seniors. The teenager is in the midst of a great year and nearing the end of a fabulous run. She plans to attend Northeastern University in Boston and study engineering.
“I decided that Northeastern was the perfect fit for me because it had all of the things I wanted in a school,” Ms. Sanseviro said. “One of my top priorities was being in a city and Boston is absolutely gorgeous so that checked off the first box right away. Another thing I needed my school to have was a reputable engineering program. I plan on going into civil engineering and Northeastern’s program is phenomenal. The thing that sold me on Northeastern was their co-op program. It allows you to work in the field during your time as a student. It is such an amazing program that few schools offer so I could not pass up the opportunity.”
Ms. Sanseviro is once again excelling this year. She is a high-achiever who doesn’t hesitate to embrace an academic challenge. Rather than coasting through her senior year, she is taking three Advanced Placement courses. She appears well positioned for college success.
“Taking Physics in my junior year made me realize that I wanted to become an engineer,” Ms. Sanseviro said. “I have always had a love for science and have grown closest with my science teachers.”
The teenager has participated in a range of extracurricular activities, including membership in the National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Science Honor Society. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the high school’s Grandfriends club, participated in the anti-discrimination A World of Difference club, which is better known by the acronym AWOD and played varsity softball for the Blue Devils.
“Your high school years are a really big turning point in your life and I think my experience at Huntington made these past four years extremely memorable and enjoyable,” Ms. Sanseviro said. “I’ve met so many great people being at Huntington, both teachers and peers. Huntington provided a comfortable environment for me to grow up and I am so grateful.
Like most people in the world, the ongoing pandemic has had an impact on the senior. “Due to COVID, the only traveling I’ve done recently was college touring,” Ms. Sanseviro said. “I’ve been to Boston several times over the past few months and it is growing to be my favorite place. I love absolutely everything about it and cannot wait to spend the next four years there.”
Ms. Sanseviro is a big fan of the high school she calls home. “Huntington has really great programs and staff, which I don’t think get enough credit. I am enrolled in the Engineering Design course this year and everyone I’ve spoken to about it didn’t even know it existed. I think some people don’t believe Huntington has enough programs to prepare students for the future, but I don’t think that is true.”
