Four Huntington wrestlers finished second in their respective weight class and the Blue Devils placed second in a field of 11 teams in the final standings at the Friar Bash at St. Anthony’s.
Eight Huntington wrestlers placed in the top four of their weight classes, including Lucas Cirlincione (118 lbs.), Zachary Zboray (160), Robbie Smith (215) and Kaleef Riley (285) who all finished second after falling in the finals.
Jonathan Granito (110 lbs.), Sam Nictora (126) and Max Casiano (145) all placed third in the tournament. Dante Salgado finished fourth at 138 lbs.
There were many highlights for the Blue Devils. Nicotra had three pins in less than a minute with falls coming in 0:57, 0:48 and 0:26. Granito also had three pins in times of 1:01, 0:36 and 0:25.
Casiano was still another Blue Devil with three pins during the tournament with falls in 1:22, 1:16 and 1:07. Smith won four matches , including pins in 2:29, 0:33 and 0:27 and a tight 4-3 decision. Riley had a pair of fast pins in 0:58 and 0:23
St. Anthony’s outdistanced Huntington in the team standings, 212.5 points to 167. Bellport (112.5), Kings Park (109), Walt Whitman (100.5), Edgemont (65), North Babylon (62), Plainview-Old Bethpage (38), Miller Place (7.0) Fordham Prep (6.0) and Archbishop Stepinac (4.0) trailed in the scoring.
The Blue Devils are heading into the heart of the dual meet season. Huntington has upcoming matches with Copiague, Connetquot, Smithtown East, Half Hollow Hills East and Harborfields. The Blue Devils will travel to Herricks and Suffern for invitational tournaments.
