Flower Hill Primary School third grade dual language teacher Glenn Edwards’ class began a kindness chain during the building’s weeklong observance and celebration of this year’s nationwide Great Kindness Challenge sponsored by Kids for Peace.

The Flower Hill youngsters were inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous quote: “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

For three weeks the students wrote a kind word or described a kind action on behalf of themselves or their classmates on one of the paper chain links.

The challenge culminated on Valentine's Day with a flurry of writing. After all was said and done, 413 paper chain links were connected and later admired by Flower Hill students and staff members.

Students posed for photos with the chain throughout the school day to have a visual record of their accomplishment, which the youngsters took pride in.

“The students in Mr. Edwards’ class truly demonstrated one of Flower Hill’s school expectations: being kind,” Principal Lucia Laguarda. “This class activity brought an added measure of happiness into the room and positively impacted these young minds.”

Nurturing a culture of kindness is a big deal at Flower Hill Primary School and everyone is on board with the ongoing campaign.
