Blue Devils to Send 12 Wrestlers to County Tournament

Robbie Smith cruised to the Suffolk League III wrestling championship on Saturday, leading Huntington to a runner-up finish in the team standings among the seven schools in the competition. The Blue Devils will be sending 12 wrestlers to next weekend’s county tournament.

Smith won a pair of matches to capture the 215 lb. title and improve his season mark to 36-1. Lucas Cirlincione (23-4), Zachary Zboray (30-5) and Kaleef Riley (31-4) all finished second in their respective weight class.

Walter Kusterbeck (16-12), Sam Nicotra (22-5), Enzo Pupillo (21-7), Max Casiano (23-8), Christian St. John (19-11), Lucas Petrizzi (25-12), Liam McDonald (5-3) and Raseac Caleb (8-8) all finished in fourth place in their respective weight class and also qualified for the Section XI tournament, which will be held at Bay Shore High School.

Huntington amassed 167 points in the competition, which trailed only team champion Connetquot, which tallied 255. Smithtown East (160), Half Hollow Hills East (120), Centereach (94), Newfield (50) and Copiague (46) rounded out the team standings.

Huntington completed the regular season with a 14-4 record. The Blue Devils are coached by Travis Smith, Mike Marinello and Jamie St. John.
